The Premium Starter Kit (PSK) Class
Hello and Welcome! Most of you know me but I’m still going to introduce myself.
I’m Iris, the founder of the Oil Method and I am obsessed with essential oils, to say the least. I’m thrilled to have you here and I’m excited to share some great oily information with you! So grab a cup of tea or a glass of wine (hey it's 5 o'clock somewhere right?!) get comfortable and get ready to get your learn on!
This class will be focusing on what to do once you have your Premium Starter Kit. How to use your oils, and get the most out of them, where to buy supplies for DIY projects, where to look for help and information about your oils, and about all the wonderful non-oil products Young Living has to offer.
You got your kit, but what do you do now? Let’s go through it!! You have your 11 oils, sample bottles, information cards, Ningxia Red packets, a Thieves Cleaner sample, and a roller filament. When you open the box, first you will see 10 oils, which lift out of the box, revealing your Stress away, your Ningxia packets, the Thieves Cleaner, the sample bottles, and the roller filament. The Ningxia Red is often better cold, so you can store your packets in the fridge. If it’s summertime and hot out, you can place them in the freezer for a healthy and delicious slushie!
Next, let’s set up your diffuser. The power supply cable will be separate, so grab it and plug in your diffuser! Once the lids are removed, each diffuser will have an indicator line on where to fill the water to. Always read the instructions for your diffuser before using. Once the water is in your diffuser, place 1-3 drops of oil in the water. Start slow even though the instructions say to use 8-10 drops! You can work your way up on the number of drops when you and your family are used to oils, and as you see fit. Turn on your diffuser!
Protip: Thieves Cleaner works greats to clean your diffuser!
Try using your oils every day! Diffusing is an easy way to accomplish this. You can also use your oils topically, by either dropping the oil directly onto your skin, or using the roller filament to roll the oil on directly. When using individual drops, please do not touch your skin directly to the bottle cap. Look for the little pin hole on the inner ring of the cap, and that is where your oils will drop out of.
The Virtual Office/VO is where you look up everything related to your Young Living account, your order history, payment options, and to place new orders.
Once you are ready to order more oils, you have 2 options, a Quick Order or you can set up ordering with Essential Rewards (which we will get into a bit later). To get to your Virtual Office/VO, you will need to log in using the link in the upper right hand corner of the Young Living homepage. Your login info is the username and password you set up when buying your kit. Once you are in your Virtual Office/VO, on the left you will see a menu which will allow you see a number of options, such as Quick Order, Member News, Essential Rewards, My Account, Member Resources, and Message Center.
“Quick Order” is where you will place an order. You can either search for a product using the search bar, or browse each product section. Once you find a product you want, click on the “add product” to place the item in your cart. If an item is out of stock, you can see it and the information but no option to add product will be available. Each month has promos assigned to various PV amounts, and if your quick order reaches that amount, you will earn free products! PV means Product or Point Value. Each product has a Point Value. Most items are $1 for 1 PV but some harder to source items, diffusers and starter kits are less PV than 1 amount. You can keep an eye out for the monthly promo announcement on the 1st of the month in Oils Modern Essentials or check your Virtual Office/VO in the Member Resources Quick Links page.
“My Account” is where you will find all information related to your account. Your contact info will be listed, and you will be able to update your information as needed. You will find your leadership information as well. This will include your enroller, your sponsor, and upline members. All of these people are there to be resources for help. Start with your enroller and work your way up if you have questions. You will also be able to see your payment options, and update those as needed. You can see your order history, which will also allow you to track your shipments.
“Member resources” includes the Virtual Product Catalog, links to the Young Living blog, and the out of stock list. The policies and procedures link is there as well. If you have time, clicking through all the links in the resources tab can teach you a lot. Each month’s monthly promo is located in the Quick Links section of Member Resources. YL University is worth taking a look at. There are some really short educational videos about essential oils there.
“Out of Stock List” Because we are dealing with natural products straight from the Earth with different harvests and nature cycles, and because YL will never compromise on quality, many products have limited or seasonal availability.
When you find oil you like, it's always good to stock up!
Did you know that Young Living updates a weekly Out of Stock Report? You can locate this in your Virtual Office.
The Virtual Office/VO offers many resources for you to peruse when you have the time.
Essential Rewards (ER)
You will likely hear a lot about the Essential Rewards/ER program and what benefits you can receive if you spend any amount of time in our oils education group. People are so excited to be on Essential Rewards/ER. So what is it?
Essential Rewards/ER is the monthly subscription box program through Young Living. Through the program, you earn a percentage of your purchase back, in points, each month. The percentage is based on your time on the ER program, starting with 10% back, increasing to 20% after 4 months, and ending with 25% back after being on the program for 25 months. How many of you signed up for that this or that creditcard to get that 5% savings? Essential Rewards/ER lets you purchase a customizable set of products each month and earn back a percentage of points to turn in for free product. It’s basically like getting free store credit each month you are on Essential Rewards/ER.
When you sign up for Essential Rewards/ER, you are committing to buy 50 PV worth of product each month. Remember that PV is the Product or Point Value of each product. Each item’s PV is listed next to its price. You then pick a day that your order will process each month. Then your orders will autoship after your processing date. Your order can change each month based on your needs. By logging into your Virtual Office/VO, and clicking on the Essential Rewards/ER tab, you can change your order as needed. You can also choose to manually process your order if you need your products before your scheduled date. You can only order on Essential Rewards/ER one time per month. If you order 100/190/250/300PV all in ONE Essential Rewards/ER order, you’ll qualify for ALL of the monthly promo freebies plus earn a percentage back in points.
Now for the best part of Essential Rewards/ER. Earning free stuff!!
You can earn free products in 3 ways: consecutive monthly orders, promotions, and points. With consecutive orders, you earn a free loyalty product every 3 months.
For the United States, the gifts are as follows:
3-month gift: Peppermint Vitality essential oil, 5 ml
6-month gift: Thieves Vitality™ essential oil blend, 5 ml
9-month gift: Melaleuca Alternifolia essential oil, 15ml
12-month gift: Loyalty, an exclusive blend formulated by Young Living Founder D. Gary Young specifically for Essential Rewards members who order for 12 months!
Now, let’s talk promotions. Each month, a different promo will be offered when you spend a certain amount. The levels are 100 PV Essential Rewards/ER only, 190 PV, 250 PV, and 300 PV. Most of the time, you will be getting oils that are a little more expensive, and sometimes not available for individual purchase.
Lastly, you can use your Essential Rewards/ER points to buy some oils in a Quick Order. When you earn points, they will accumulate until you use them. Points expire on a rolling 12-month basis--meaning you have a year to use each set of points you earn. Points can be used to purchase most products. When you are thinking about using points, you’ll see a “flag” next to the PV amount while adding products to your order. This flag will indicate that the product is eligible for purchase using ER points. Once you are ready to check out, once on the payment screen, under payment methods you will now see the option to use ER points.
Be sure to set up PV Assistant by putting a few low priced items that you don’t mind having extras of. Set your PV Assistant to the PV you want to hit. If anything goes out of stock between the time your order processes and it gets packed, the system will add in the appropriate number of items so you don’t miss out on PV and any monthly promo freebies that you’d be eligible for.
What we call the “Sweet 16” are some of the most common and favorite oils purchased after the Premium Starter Kit/PSK. These include blends and individual oils that have a wide range of benefits. From mood enhancers, oils that can benefit skin, and popular citrus oils, these 16 oils range in price, with some being quite affordable.
In addition to the Sweet 16, there are up to 26 oils that are $25 or less. Once again these oils cover a wide range of uses, and include blends and single oils.
Here is a list of the oils that are under $25:
Black Pepper, Citronella, Cypress, Fennel, Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime, Orange, Pine, Spearmint, Cedarwood, Clove, Eucalyptus, Ginger, Jade Lemon, Lemongrass, Nutmeg, Palmarosa, Rosemary, Tangerine, Christmas Spirit, Envision, Gentle Baby
Learn About Your Oils
Now that you have started using your kit, there are a number of resources available to you to help you learn about oils and their uses. First, there is our private Facebook educational group. In this group, people share their success stories, and you can ask questions about uses. The easiest way to look up something you have a question about is to use the search function. By entering a few keywords, you can find if someone else has asked about the same issue, and see the recommendations given. And we have our exclusive business group where you can learn all about how to share your love for oils with others and let YL reward you with oils and a paycheck in return. Be sure to check the Files section of the group and the Photo Albums of the group for some great information. I would love for everyone to join this group. If you are not currently part of our groups, ask your enroller to add you.
Outside of Facebook, there are a number of reference materials available. The Young Living Blog has tips, recipes, and usages for various products and is free resource for all. There are a huge amount of eo books on amazon or in your local bookstore. There are also a few oil apps for your phone. The most popular, and a handy tool to have, is the “Reference Guide for Essential Oils.” This app is easy to use, and you can search based on oil or topic. Oily App is also a great educational app.
When using oils, you can use single oils, by themselves or mixed together, or blends. You can use the YL blends or create various blends, which appeal to you and your needs at the time. When making your own blend, use anywhere from 2-7 single oils, or a YL blend and a single oil. Mixing too many blends together would defeat the purpose of the oils used, and you would probably not be getting the full benefit from them. If you want your oils to create a synergy, meaning you want them to enhance each other and get the full benefit of all oils that you are using, you want to mix your selected oils together in a bottle and let them rest there, before adding your carrier oil or placing the blend in your diffuser. It is recommended to let the oils rest for about 24 hours. Blends can be used as perfumes, roller bottles for various symptoms, topically for skin benefit, and a number of other things. There are a number of recipes and recommendations in the previously mentioned resources.
You can use your oils topically or aromatically.
Topical use can include direct application, massage, layering, and the raindrop technique. You can apply oils directly to your skin, over the areas of trouble, or unto the vita flex point related to your symptoms. Incorporating your oils into massage can be beneficial both physically and mentally, depending on the oils you choose to use. Layering oils topically is another way to use oils, and is different than using a blend. Layering is beneficial in that you allow each oil to work more effectively in your body. To layer, you will usually apply an oil, massage it in, and then add the next oil. Wait 30 seconds to 5 minutes between each oil. The raindrop technique is a method where certain oils are dropped like little drops of rain from about 6 inches above the body along the entire length of the spine.
If you choose to ingest your oils, you can do so multiple ways. The easiest way to ingest is to add oils to your water or beverage of choice. When using citrus oils in your drinks, never use plastic cups because the oils can break down the plastic. Always use glass or medical grade stainless steel. You can also make capsules to ingest multiple oils at once. Vegetable capsules are available through Amazon. You can add honey or a carrier oil to the capsules to make it easier on your stomach. You can also cook with your oils to enhance your dishes. Substituting oils for herbs is an easy way to incorporate them into your dishes. One drop will go a long way, so start small, and add to your taste.
Oils and Kids
Safety is of the utmost importance when using oils with children. You can diffuse and apply topically when using oils with children. Children can benefit from using oils as well, but only when used properly. When diffusing, start low, and use only a few drops. To use topically, the oils will need to be diluted according to the bottle, and then based on your child’s age. You can dilute with any carrier oil you’re comfortable using. When using oils with children please use only what you are comfortable with. Here is a dilution chart for your reference! https://www.youngliving.com/blog/essential-oils-in-the-nursery
Young Living also has a pre-diluted line of oils specifically designed for the little ones! <3
DIY Queens and Kings
With the advantages of Pinterest, YouTube and blogs, there are many ways to look up DIY recipes for anything and everything. Using your oils to make things that you normally buy can save you money, decrease the amount of chemicals in your home, and create a healthier environment.
In terms of items around the house, you can make sanitizing wipes, bathroom cleaner, toilet bombs, glass cleaner, even carpet deodorizer. You’d be surprised how much money you save when you start making your own cleaning supplies. When it comes to children, you can make a number of items that you use daily. Baby wipes, “butt paste,” chest rub, and lotion are all items that you can make using your oils, replacing chemically laden products and saving you money in the long run. Beauty products are another easy substitute using oils. Perfumes, make-up removing wipes, facial serums, lotions, chapstick are all fairly easy to make. These items quickly add up in price, and when you are creating your own beauty products, you can tailor them to your specific needs and wants. Even health products are something you can make with oils. Chest rubs, immunity support rollers, seasonal support rollers, creams for sore muscle, even oil-infused Kleenex are all items you can make to replace items you normally buy.
Once you have a resource or two you like, you can make a number of items to help save you money and use more natural products. There will be Pinterest fails, but using your educational groups can help you troubleshoot what went wrong.
Where to Buy
Now that you are ready to make all sorts of oily things, you need to know where to get them! When planning on making your own products, getting stainless steel or glass storage containers are the safest option. This way if you happen to use any citrus oils, you know you are safe. Roller bottles can be purchased in various sizes and even fun colors if you search for them. Mason jars are a great option for everything from lotions to soaps. Dropper bottles are good to have on hand, especially for easy dispensing of carrier oils. In terms of carrier oils, you can choose which ones you will use based on preference and what you are making. Coconut oil is a common one, because it is reasonably priced and has its own benefits. If you are using it to make rollers, serums, or anything liquid, make sure to buy organic cold-pressed fractionated coconut oil. Fractionated coconut oil will remain in liquid form, despite temperature changes. Amazon is a great resource for all your supplies!
Ningxia Red is our superfood drink. It comes in 2 ounce pouches or in a bottle so you can serve yourself 1-2 ounces per day. It is designed to energize, fortify and revitalize your body and mind.
Ningxia Red is made from organic Ningxia wolfberries. Wolfberries are the Mercedes Benz of goji berries and have tons of antioxidants--the nutrient that helps to combat the effects of free radicals and cell damage. These wolfberries come from the Ningxia province of China, which has the most over-100 year old active people. “Active” meaning living, working, exercising. The secret to their healthy longevity is that they puree the wolfberries and drink that every day.
Our Ningxia Red is full of the Ningxia wolfberries but also contains other superfruits. One ounce of Ningxia Red contains the same antioxidant levels as 100 oranges or 59 broccoli florets! It’s got a low glycemic level of 11 and is safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women. It tastes best cold--so put it in your refrigerator or make popsicles with it in the summer for a healthy treat.
Both Rolf, myself and our pup drink this every day!
YL Body and Beauty products
Young Living offers a wide range of hair, skin, body and beauty products infused with their essential oils. We could spend all day on this topic, so we will just briefly talk about some of the offerings. They cover oral health, anti-aging, hair care, and a number of skin products.
First, we’ll touch on the ART skin care line. The ART system includes a gentle cleanser, toner and light moisturizer. These 3 products use botanicals and essential oils to help balance and promote healthy skin. As complementary products to the skin care system, there is the ART Renewal Serum, ART Intensive Moisturizer, the ART Cream Masque, and the ART Beauty Masque. The Renewal Serum helps nourish and hydrate the most delicate areas of the face. The Intensive Moisturizer is for those that need deep, ultra-hydration. The masques use different botanicals to help nurture and hydrate skin. All of the ART products help to hydrate and nourish the skin for a healthy, youthful appearance.
Other skin products include cleansers, creams and moisturizers. The other cleansers include the Orange Blossom Facial Wash, which can be added to a foaming dispenser to extend the use of your bottle, and the Satin Facial Scrub Mint, which is a gentle exfoliant filled with tiny jojoba beads that won’t harm the environment.
Now, let’s talk about teeth and gums! There is a whole line of oral care products using the Thieves oil. There are 3 different varieties of toothpaste to choose from (some people use the AromaBright as deodorant!) and mints. All products are made with naturally derived products and the Thieves oil, no flouride or additives, promoting a healthy mouth, breath and smile!
Using all natural products on your hair can have many benefits, such as promoting growth, strengthening, and for some, extending the life of your color. YL offers 2 different shampoo and conditioner combinations depending on your needs. The Copaiba Vanilla line offers rich hydration for dry or damaged hair. The Lavender Mint line is an invigorating line suitable for all hair types.
Young Living has a large selection of body care items, including soaps, lotions, deodorants, shave oils, bath and shower gels, and pain options. The soaps include bar soaps, with a wide range of scents, and foaming hand soaps. There are 3 different scents of hand and body lotion, Shutran aftershave lotion, and the Cool Azul Pain Cream and Sports Gel. The Shutran line is geared towards men, and offers beard oil, shave cream, and aftershave lotion. Mirah Shave Oil is a great product to use when shaving your legs or delicate parts of your body. Many people use the Shave Oil as a cuticle oil too.
With all of these options, you are sure to find something to incorporate into your daily routine. It’s important to look at the ingredients of your body, hair, and oral care products. So many “natural” products still have toxic chemicals in them. And when you consider that the skin is the largest organ of the body, you want to make sure you’re using products that are free of toxic chemicals and preservatives. Young Living products follow the Seed to Seal Guarantee our oils have so you can feel confident using these products and decreasing your family’s exposure to toxins.
Thieves essential oil blend was inspired by the legend of 4 thieves who formulated a combination of Clove, Rosemary, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus and Lemon they used while stealing from the dead during the plague. Tested for its cleansing abilities, Thieves is highly effective in supporting the immune system & good health.

Sharing Your Oils
Now that you have new ideas on how to use your oils, and other Young Living products, people will start to notice. They will see you using your oils or ask how you how you like them. Once they see how easy they are to use and how beneficial they are in everyday life, people might ask how to get them.
You have a couple of ways of sharing:
1) You can refer them to the person who signed you up
2) You can give them your member number so your friends sign up under you.
Each time you share and your friend buys a kit, Young Living will send you a $50+ cheque the following month as long as you have purchased 100 PV the month your friend bought a kit.
It’s that easy to earn a little extra spending money, by just sharing your oils, in person, by mail, and on social media. If you are really interested in trying out the business side, you can ask the person who signed you up for more guidance and to help you get started. There is no obligation or pressure to do the business. Most of us didn’t start sharing about oils because we wanted to start our own Young Living business. Most of us just couldn’t help but share our successes and once we started, we couldn’t stop.
The income potential with this business is huge. Financial freedom is just one perk but knowing that we’re helping people take control of their health is the main purpose of sharing. Here is the 2016 Income Disclosure. If you have questions about starting the business, please contact the person that you bought your kit from for more information. Our team has tons of free resources and training materials--plus it’s just super fun!
How would an extra income of $6500 a month sound to you?
Young Living Foundation
Young Living is not only a company that cares about the Earth and how our plants are grown, but they also care about people around the world that need help. The Young Living Foundation is our non-profit organization. Young Living pays for 100% of the administrative and operating costs so that every penny that is donated goes to all of the charities we support. The Young Living Foundation started when Gary and Mary started buying farmland all over the world to supply our oils. They wanted to support the local communities the farms were located in to ensure that the farm laborers were well-taken care of and the children in the surrounding areas had access to a good education. You can learn more about all of the organizations that the Young Living Foundation supports by visiting www.younglivingfoundation.org.
Be sure to “round up” your order to the nearest dollar. That little bit of extra change will go to people in need. If everyone that regularly orders on Essential Rewards/ER rounded up, the Young Living Foundation would receive $500,000 per month to put to good use!
You can also get more involved by choosing to donate more to the specific charity within Young Living Foundation or sponsor a child by paying for their education at the Young Living Academy in Ecuador. Go to www.younglivingfoundation.org to learn more.
The Young Living Foundation is doing so much good around the world---it’s something we are all really proud to be a part of. Most non-profit organizations only use a portion of the donations for the actual people in need. It is very rare that 100% of the donations are actually going to the people in need but Young Living is so dedicated to our charities that they pay for all of the administrative costs and operating costs.
